Olive M. Jones, 90, of Elkhart, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 1:15 pm at Greenleaf Living Center where she had resided for the past five years. She was surrounded by her children, some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was born December 26, 1919 in Elkhart, and was the daughter of Henry J. and Bertha M. (Kenedy) Doty. On the 7th day of January, 1939, Olive married the love of her life, Paul Dix Jones, who died May 5, 1979, after 39 wonderful years together. Olive was one of eight children born of the union of Henry and Bertha Doty. She had three brothers—Arthur, Gerald and William Doty; and four sisters—Marie, Florence, Aileen and Helen. Olive was the last remaining of the eight children. Olive is survived by two daughters, Elaine A. (Barry) Caldwell and Janet E. Bayes (Doug Karr), and one son, Thomas P. (Rebecca) Jones, all of Elkhart; grandchildren Karen (John) St. Germain, Carla Norris (Jeff Munger), Barry (Robin) Caldwell, Jr., Debbie Caldwell Appling, L. Daniel (Martha) Bayes, Matthew P. (Jennelle) Bayes, David T. (Rachel) Bayes, Jennifer (Doug) Yoder, Shelly (Jason) Bontrager, Paul J. (Melissa) Jones, and Joshua (Kristin) Jones, 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Olive was employed at Sears & Roebuck in the Credit Dept. for several years, Adams & Westlake in the Relay Dept. for over 25 years and then cleaned homes for families for several years before retiring at 85 years of age. She enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing, gardening, cooking and being with her family and grandchildren. She was a very giving person who loved the Lord and doing things for people and serving God. Her life was a testimony of her faith in God. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She did long for the day when she would see her beloved, Paul, again. She is complete in Christ!
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the 10 am funeral service Wednesday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart. Pastor John Blodgett will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
The family’s preferred memorial is Southern Care Hospice or Elkhart Christian Academy. Visit www.stemmlawsonspeterson.com to sign an online guestbook.
