R. Lee Prough

August 22, 1930 — October 30, 2016

R. Lee Prough, 86 of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016 at his residence.

He was born Aug. 22, 1930 in Shipshewana to Russel H. and Marjorie (Spreuer) Prough. He married Verba J. Yoder on April 23, 1954 in Goshen. She survives with a daughter, Melody (Ted) Knudson; 2 sons, Mark (Stephanie Farnham) Prough and Kirk Prough all of Elkhart; a grandson, Tyler Knudson; 4 sisters, Frances Prough and Ella Yoder of Shipshewana, Mary Lou (Jack) Van Antwerp of Howe and Martha (Leslie) Pence of Sheridan and a brother, Byron (Jackie) Prough of Shipshewana. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lee Prough, 3 brothers, Lyle, Harvey and Paul and a sister, Helen Mason.

Lee graduated from Shipshewana High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired as a foreman from Uniroyal Corp. after 30 years and then worked as a receiving foreman for 10 years at Target.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and made peanut brittle. He also was a Redcoat at Elkhart General Hospital and enjoyed woodworking and traveling.

Visitation for Lee will be from 4-8 pm Tuesday, Nov. 1st at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Wednesday, Nov. 2nd at Faith United Methodist, where services will begin at 10:30 am. Rev. John Hogsett will officiate. Burial will follow at Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
