Rachel L. (Shook) Young

Rachel L. Young, 79 of Goshen, passed away on October 8, 2023 at Goshen Hospital in Goshen, IN. She was born November 27, 1943 in Elkhart to Charles and Ester (Kurtz) Shook, Jr. She married Oscar D. Kleitz on September 27, 1963. He preceded her in death on December 15, 2001. She then married Jerry Young on July 15, 2006. He preceded her in death on October 3, 2023.

Surviving are three sons: Marvin (Courtney) Kleitz of Edwardsburg, MI, Jonathon (Kelly) Young of Effingham, IL and Jeffrey (Veronica) Young of Manchester, TN, a daughter Esther Hernandez of Goshen, five granddaughters: Amber and Ashley Kleitz, Kayle, Breanna and Brooklyn Young; six grandsons: Robert, Brayden and Aaron Kleitz, Alex Young , Brett and Triston Klein; three great-grandchildren: Preston, Kalep and Addalynn Kleitz, two sisters: Patricia (David) George of White Pigeon, MI and Linda Swope of Elkhart and a brother Clifford (Sherry) Shook of South Bend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Kenton Shook and a granddaughter Felecia Wall.

Rachel was a homemaker and was a member of Open Skies House of Prayer. She loved bingo, karaoke, country music, TOPS, NASCAR, needlepoint and crafts.

Visitation will be 12 to 4 pm Monday October 16, 2023 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be at 4pm. Pastor Robert Lambert will be officiating. Burial will take place in Minnesota. Memorials may be made to the Open Skies House of Prayer Building Fund, 110 Hackett Road, Goshen, IN 46528.
