Ramona E. Hughes

Ramona E. Hughes 82, of Elkhart, died at 10 am March 3, 2011 at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart.

She was born April 19, 1928 in Freeport, Ill. to Arthur and Anna J. (Fay) Deemer and married Eugene J. Hughes on November 19, 1947 in Freeport. He survives with a daughter, Linda Nye of Elkhart, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Jean Hughes, 3 sisters, Naomi Deemer, Pearl Deemer and Erma Race and 3 brothers, Arthur, Leslie and Henry Deemer.

Mrs. Hughes retired as owner and operator of the Ben Franklin Store in Elkhart for 18 years until its closing in 1985. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bristol and was an avid reader.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 pm Sunday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart. Visitation will also be a half hour prior to the mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bristol. Fr. Bob VanKempen will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Stockton, Illinois on Tuesday at 1 pm CST.
