Ray E. “Bud” Copsey, 88 of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.
Bud was born on Dec. 9, 1929 to James and Olivia (Gustafson) Copsey in Elkhart. He married Donna J. Gordon on Feb. 5, 2000. She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 2015. His survivors include his children Scott Copsey of Indianapolis, Kelli (Derrick) Hendricks of Cassopolis, MI, Heidi (Michal) Copsey of Goshen, Missi (Victor) Chael of Elmhurst, IL and Bryan (Beckie) Copsey of Elkhart. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Jesse Finnegan, Joel, Jared and Megan Hendricks, Ethan, Emma and Owen Chael, and Kaitlyn and Madison Copsey. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Copsey Jr. and his sister Evelyn Canen.
Bud served in the U.S Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was active in the business world his entire adult life in sales and management and as an entrepreneur and business owner. He formed business relationships over a wide area and these relationships endured even after his retirement.
Donna Gordon was the love of his life. He made a solemn vow to never remove his wedding ring. He was true to his vow. They were members of Trinity United Methodist Church and thoroughly enjoyed their Friday Night Social Group. Both were enthusiastic travelers. Bud took great joy and pride in his children throughout their lives. He was an involved dad and their greatest supporter.
Visitation for Bud will be at Trinity United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 21st from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at the church on Friday, June 22nd at 11 am. Rev. Keith McFarren will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the D.A.V. #19.
