Raymond Ralph Reitz, 88, of Elkhart passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 30, 1931 to John and Ann Reitz in Galen, Michigan at his family home. He married Betty J. Chodzinski on June 11, 1955 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in South Bend in the church rectory.
Ray worked for Mossberg Printing in South Bend and retired from Lithotone Inc., in Elkhart as a printer. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Where he received the several medals and ribbons. He was a member of the VFW Post 985 in Goshen. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, he was an usher and helped with several church missions. He enjoyed assisting the pastor with things at the church and at the parsonage. His greatest love was the love for his family.
Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty and their sons, James B. (Mary J.) Reitz of Elkhart, Bruce A. Reitz of Elkhart; his grandchildren, Tiffany (Lloyd) Hunsberger, Kristi (Jeff) Stetler, Taylar (Isaac) Troyer, Briana Reitz and Danielle Reitz; his great-grandchildren, Henry & Hadley Hunsberger and Nadia & Aubrey Stetler. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Alex, Albert, Edward, John, Theodore and Henry Reitz and his sister Anna Heilman.
Friends may visit with family from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, the 14th at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 831 West Marion Street, Elkhart, IN 46516 or the Charity of your choice.
