Rhoda M. Gutschow

Rhoda Gutschow, age 88, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday July 7, 2022 at Riverside Village, Elkhart. She was born November 17, 1933 in Cissna Park, Illinois to Earl and Kathryn Roberts. On November 4, 1961 in Chicago, she married Warren W. Gutschow who preceded her in death on February 13, 2017

Rhoda graduated from Carlton College, Minnesota in 1955. She then graduated from Wesley Memorial Hospital’s, Chicago, Medical Technology Program in 1956. She was a Customer Service Representative and retired from Aetna Health in Rockford, IL. She also worked at Brookside Clinic in Rockford, IL and Winnebago Health Department in Illinois. As a trained medical technologist, she worked for Mr. and Mrs. Stearn, Both doctors, at their ear, nose and throat clinic in Elgin, IL. In her younger years she and her family attended First United Methodist Church in Belvidere where she worked and served the Lord. She enjoyed reading, fishing and getting together once a month to play bridge with her friends.  Most recently she was a member of Trinity on Jackson Church in Elkhart, she loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by 3 daughters: Laura Byrns of Elkhart, Julie (Edward) Riedmaier of Woodridge, IL and Mary Gutschow of Elkhart; 4 Grandchildren: Kathryn (Neil) Lane, Daniel (Erica) Byrns, John Riedmaier and Will Riedmaier; great-grandchildren: Raelynn Lane, Charlotte “Charleigh” Lane, Graham Byrns, Brody Byrns and Parker Byrns; sister-in-law, Donna Niss; nieces Susan (Kevin) Sparks, Karen Ray, Kim (Glen) Masoner and Tina Turner; her nephew Steven (Sandy) Niss. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother William Ross Roberts and 2 great-grandsons Liam Lane and Lucas Lane, son-in-law Charlie Byrns, brother-in-law Clark Niss and niece Diane Niss.

Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514, Funeral service will be at 10 am on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Trinity on Jackson Church, 2715 East Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46516 with visitation one hour before funeral services. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
