Richard L. Murray

Richard L. “Dick” Murray, 73, passed away at his residence on April 19, 2010. He was born to T. Stuart Murray IV and E. Freda (DePew) Murray on June 25, 1936 in Elkhart.

He is survived by his longtime companion Rebecca “Becky” Gibson of Elkhart; 2 sons Rick (Cathy) Murray and David Murray of Elkhart; 2 daughters Kimberly (Dennis) Gunden of Goshen and Megan (Andy) Serafine of Elkhart; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers T. Stuart Murray V of Honolulu, HI and Clifford (Jean) Murray of Elkhart.

Mr. Murray graduated from Elkhart High School in 1954 where he played basketball on the state final team. He also played football on the 1st All-state North-South football team, and was a standout on the track team. He attended the U. of Michigan and graduated from Indiana State University where he was on the football and golf teams. He was a school teacher and coach, then was a business owner and R.V. sales representative. He was a former member of Christiana Creek and Four Lakes Country Clubs and currently a member of Bent Oak. He was an avid golfer and loved flowers and birds. He was a sports fan of I.U., Purdue, Notre Dame and the Chicago Cubs.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 pm and one hour prior to the memorial service on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart. Rev. Anne Cubbage of First Congregational Church will officiate. Cremation has taken place.
