Richard J. Uplinger

Richard J. Uplinger, 85, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Valley View Health Care Center where he had been a patient since July 2010. Born September 28, 1926, he married Yvonne Helene Richmond on January 15, 1978 in Marquette, MI. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2000.

A veteran of World War II, Richard was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by 4 sons, Richard John (Joanne) Uplinger II of North Webster, Ronald J. (Lori) Uplinger of Warsaw, David (Janet) Marshall of Washington and Robert (Joan) Galbraith of North Dakota; 2 daughters, Leigh Eldridge of Lincoln, IL, and Loretta (Jim Rea) Dickey of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Other survivors include 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister Delores Wheeler of Elkhart; one brother William Metz of Aurora, CO; and his former wife and best friend, Helen (Myers) Cart.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm, Thursday, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart, where services will be held at 10 am Friday. Rev. Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Shavehead Cemetery in Jones, MI immediately following the service.
