Rita F. Wirt, 71 of Elkhart, passed away March 7, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
She was born July 8, 1942 in Elkhart to Bert and Zelma (James) Cook. She married Dennis E. Wirt on July 24, 1960. He survives with a daughter, Rhonda (Jeff) Schaar of Elkhart and a son, Rob (Robin) Wirt of Muncie; 4 grandchildren, Austin and Adam Waters, and Daniel and Erin Wirt; 2 brothers, Gary (Marcia) Cook and Jerry (Carolyn) Cook both of Elkhart; 5 sisters, Geneva Cook, Lucille Clark, Lillian Beehler, Jan Bender and Nila (Lawrence) Young all of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dale Cook and a sister Mary Miller.
Rita retired as supervisor from the Elkhart County Clerks Office, where she had worked for 32 years. She was a lifelong member of Jamestown United Methodist Church. She enjoyed fishing and loved Florida sunsets over the gulf and her grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, March 10th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart and an hour prior the 10:30 am service on Tuesday, March 11th at Jamestown United Methodist Church. Pastor Paul Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
