Robert T. Atkinson

Robert T. Atkinson, 75, of Goshen, died at 2:42 pm, August 15, 2010 at the Elkhart Hospice House. He was born June 28, 1935 in Elkhart to Robert T. and Dorothy (Cook) Atkinson, Sr. On March 21, 1959 he married Judith A. Vance in Elkhart.

She survives along with son Bruce (Lynda) Atkinson of Elkhart; daughter Lynn (Steve) Kiser of Odon; son Scott (Sue) Atkinson of Villa Hills, KY; 9 grandchildren Jennifer (Joseph) Crouch, Leslie, Michael, Alex, Adam and Ashli Atkinson, and Allison, Justin and Sean Kiser; 2 great-grandchildren Aniston and Owen Atkinson; and sister June Sherland of Goshen. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers Don McElwee, Glen and Roy Atkinson, and 3 sisters Betty Divietro, Maxine Guy and Margaret Davis.

He graduated with Elkhart High School’s Class of 1955 and attended Indiana University. Mr. Atkinson was in real estate sales and then in automotive sales and manufactured housing/RV industry sales for 30 years. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served on many boards. He was a member of Kane Masonic Lodge #183, Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend and Mizpah Shrine Fort Wayne. He also served in the US Air Force.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 pm. There will be a memorial service Wednesday at 11 am at Faith United Methodist Church. Rev. Larry W. Kurtz will officiate. Cremation has taken place.
