Robert L. Funderburk, age 73, of Elkhart passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Bob was born on May 19, 1947 in Elkhart to William E. and Margaret (Connelly) Funderburk. He married Wanda Armstrong on July 11, 1970 in Elkhart at Jamestown United Methodist Church.

Bob graduated from Elkhart Central High School, and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from September 1966 through September 1969 as an Air Defense Controller. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 bronze service stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Purple Heart Medal and the Sharpshooter Rifle Medal. In his youth, he was a Plant Manager for Holiday Rambler in Wakarusa, IN, leading to his becoming Vice President of Manufacturing for Utilimaster Corporation for 13 years. Later, he was Executive Vice President of Shasta RV in Middlebury, IN, and Executive Vice President of Operations of Centurion Vehicles in White Pigeon, MI. He retired from Kountry Wood Products, Nappanee. He was a former member of Jamestown United Methodist Church, and a current member of Osceola Grace Brethren. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and cultivating his wooded property, and was always up for the task of repairing anything mechanical or electrical — making things nicer with his care and attention. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend to many.

Bob is survived by his wife Wanda Funderburk; their son, Robert G. (Gretchen Kalwinski) Funderburk of Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Amanda Funderburk, Lunden Johnson and James Williams, Jr; his great-granddaughter, Tokiyo Funderburk; his siblings, William (Sandy) Funderburk of Cochrane, Alberta Canada, Charles Funderburk of Elkhart, Michael (Tammy) Funderburk of Shipshewana, IN and his brother-in-law Casey Jones of Union, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Margaret Funderburk, his daughter, Renee M. Funderburk, his brother, Donald Funderburk and his sisters, Betty Jones and Dorothy Schnaare.

Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, all services will be private at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. Pastor Gregory Serafino of Osceola Grace will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart. Online condolences may be made to the Funderburk family at www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com
