Robert E. Massing

Robert E. Massing Sr., 83 of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Aug. 28, 1932 in Elkhart to Peter and Pauline (Holtz) Massing. He married Darlene Glenn Shaw on March 18, 2001 in Elkhart. She died on April 2, 2014. Surviving are a son, Peter Massing of Pettigrew, AR; 2 step-daughters, Sara Lee of Elkhart and Lisa (Rob) Pankratz of Las Vegas, NV; 3 step-sons, Josh and Jeremy Lee both of Elkhart and Albert (Christy) Shaw of Mountain Home, AR; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tom Massing of Elkhart and Don Massing of Plymouth and a sister, Shirley Dickey of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Massing.

Robert retired as Fire Chief from 1961 to 1991 for the Forrest City Fire Dept. in Arkansas. He previously worked at Walmart as a stocker.

He graduated from Southern Arkansas University and Mount St. Mary’s, Maryland and served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War.

Visitation will be from 12 pm to 1 pm Friday, Jan. 15th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1 pm. Interment will follow at Adamsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force and DAV #19.
