Robert E. Rowits, 87 of Elkhart and Bradenton, FL, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Jan. 7, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio to Frederick W. and Anna May (Reimel) Rowits. He married Janice L. Smucker on Nov. 23, 1990 in Elkhart. She survives along with his children, Barbara (Edward) Zercher of Lititz, PA and Bruce (Cindy) Rowits of Ephrata, PA; grandchildren, Ryan Zercher, Eric (Kilee) Rowits and Carl Rowits; Step-daughter, Michelle (Steve) Schnabel of Danville, IN; step-daughter-in-law, Cindy Magers; step-grandchildren, Kelsie Schnabel, Samantha Schnabel, Stefany Magers and Josh Magers. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Jeff Magers.

Bob graduated from Rayen High School in Youngstown, OH and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob retired as an Industrial Engineer in the Rubber Industry.

Bob was best known for his love of family and friends, his wry sense of humor and his desire to travel. He served both as deacon and elder in the Presbyterian Church. After marrying Jan, he joined Trinity United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, April 16th in the chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church where Bob and Jan were married 25 years ago. Friends may visit with the family from 10 am Saturday until the service time. Rev. Tim Burchill will officiate. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the church or Alzheimers Association. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is entrusted with his care. Online condolences may be sent to www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com.
