Ronald Gail Duzy, age 73 of Elkhart was born on August 27, 1947 in Goshen, IN to Henry and Joy Duzy. He married Linda Leonard on February 5, 1966. On December 21, 1968 he married Patricia Verheye, she preceded him in death.
Ron was a mechanical genius. There was not anything he could not fix. He enjoyed sports (especially Notre Dame football and Peyton Manning), car racing, and being of service to others. He enjoyed giving back to his community through his work as a police officer, ringing bells during the holidays for Salvation Army on behalf The Elkhart Evening Optimist Club, assisting with Toy Drives for Children in need, and building/repairing Soap Box Derby cars for the kids racing in the Elkhart County 4H Fair. As a final act of service, his eyes have been donated to provide the gift of sight.
Ron was a member of The Church of God in Elkhart, Elkhart Evening Optimist Club, and the Elkhart Moose Lodge #599. He was very well educated. He graduated from Elkhart Central High in 1965. More graduations followed. Indiana University South Bend, where he received his Business Associates Degree 1966, Indiana College of Mortuary Science 1969, Indiana Law Enforcement Academy 1971, South Bend Police Academy 1973. His working career began at Excel Corporation as a material handler, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy, Sonitrol, Inc. as a GM, Town of Wakarusa as a Town Marshall, Midas Int’l as a Mechanical Inspector, Elkhart County Highway Department as a Mechanic & Operations Driver, Elkhart County Solid Waste Department as the Superintendent of Landfill Operations, Monaco Coach/Roadmaster as a R&D Liaison, and Masterbrand as Quality Control.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Kim, grandsons, Brenden and Brad Mickey all of Denver, CO; his sisters, Cindy and Sherri Duzy of Elkhart and his large extended family and friends.
