Sandra Kay Taylor, 69, moved to Heaven on February 28, 2014 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born Sandra Kay Head on February 17, 1945 to Lester and Ethel (Middleton) Head. She was the youngest of 7 children. Mary Harriet, Betty, Richard, Ron and Carol preceded her and still living is Charles.
She married Daniel Taylor on Jan. 8, 1968 at Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Together they had 4 beautiful and loving daughters, Kimberly (Butch) Corbin, Maria (Tom) Hurley, Rebekah Welker and Rachel Taylor. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Christopher (Jessica), Steffany, Alexandrea, Seth, Kaylie, Nathan, Benjamin, Zachary, Caleb and Emily, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was first to have juvenile cataracts removed at the age of 3. While living on Kelsy Lake and after graduating from Dowagiac High School, she received Jesus as her savior and taught Sunday School at Bethel Mennonite Church in Cass. After marrying Daniel, they volunteered at Bashor, taught Good News Club, VBS and ran a day care center where she also fed the neighborhood kids. In the 70’s she preached an Easter Service at Island Park, taught Sunday School at Grace United Methodist Church and worked at Target until having a stroke at 49. Many remember her being pushed in her wheelchair by her always attending husband, speaking to everyone they met. She touched many lives and became “Mom” to so many that she took under her wing. She will be dearly missed by everyone.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm Wednesday Mar. 5 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 10:30 am service Thursday Mar. 6, at Northside Church of the Nazarene, Elkhart with Pastor Tim Sheets officiating. Burial will follow at Osolo Cemetery.
