Sharon Kay Booth, 72, of Goshen, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born to the late Earl and Mabel (Miller) Foust on November 1, 1938 in Elkhart. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1957 and married Frank R. Booth II on August 13, 1961. He survives along with 2 daughters Laura Lee (Theodore) Hou of Commerce, MI, and Lisa Mae (Curtis) Aschenbrenner of Mishawaka. An infant son Alan Reynolds Booth passed away at 3 weeks. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Amy and Sara Hou, and Franklin Aschenbrenner.
Sharon attended Ball State University, transferred and then graduated from South Bend College of Commerce. She worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Bowdoin Products, and retired from Stoutco Inc. in Bristol in 2009.
Sharon was active in the community with the Elkhart Jayshee’s holding several positions including President and was the General Chairman of the Junior Miss Program and attended 7 State Pageants in Frankfort. She then became involved with Concord Little League in 1975 as a parent of a player in the first year of the softball program. In 1976, she became a major team manager and in 1977 was the manager of the Major All Star Team that won the first ever C.L.L. District championship, advanced and then won the Sectional Championship to further advance to the State Tournament. She and her husband Frank were selected to chair and host the Indiana State Senior Softball Tournament in 1989 and 1990 and attended the L.L. Softball World Championships held in Kalamazoo, MI for 10 consecutive years and served as League Secretary for 25 years. She and her husband were honored for their years of service to the League with the main softball diamond becoming their “Field of Dreams” in its being dedicated in their name.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart. Her funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 pm at Faith United Methodist Church with Reverend Larry W. Kurtz officiating. Burial will be at Rice Cemetery.
