Sue Ann Geerts-Sturm, 78 of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2014 in the home of her son after a long illness. She was born June 6, 1935 in Elkhart to John W. and Wava E. (Barnes) Geerts. She married Henry “Hank” Sturm on April, 1, 1966 in Elkhart. Surviving are a son, John (Kelly) Galbreth of Vandalia, 2 daughters, Julia Ann (Al Newvine) Johnson of Elkhart and Suzette Marie (Dr. Michael) Hufford of Chapel Hill, NC; 8 grandchildren; Nckole (Toby) Grose of Elkhart, Shane Estes of Middlebury, Erik Estes of Granger, Ian, Alexandria, Oliver Hufford of Chapel Hill, N.C., Beth Hummel of Vandalia, MI. and Cory Hummel of Columbia City, IN., 2 great-grandchildren, Taelor and Nolan Grose of Elkhart, and a sister, Sally Flynn of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by her husband Hank on Sept. 5, 2001 and her companion, Carlos Mendez. Sue Ann graduated from Elkhart High School in 1954 and retired as owner of Geerts Flowers by Sue Ann after 50 years. She was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose. She was an avid golfer and a Cubs fan. Visitation for Sue Ann will be from 4-7 pm Monday, March 17th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart where a Vigil Service will be at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, March 18th at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. Reverend Glenn Kohrman will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Make-A-Wish Foundation, United Cancer Services of Elkhart County or the Humane Society of Elkhart County. Online condolences may be sent to www.stemmlawsonpeterson.com.
