Thomas A. Stutsman, 81, of Bristol passed away on November 2, 2022 at Elkhart General Hospital. Tom was born February 7, 1941 in Elkhart, IN to Samuel and Esther Stutsman. He married Karen Sue George on September 16, 1966 in South Bend.
Tom graduated from Concord High School, class of 1959. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Puerto Rico in the 1960s and his platoon was called to help with the cleanup of the Palm Sunday tornadoes in Elkhart in 1965. He then earned his bachelor's degree in Business Management from Indiana University. He worked in human resources his entire career until he retired in 2000 from Glaval Corporation where he was the Vice President of Human Resources. He served as President of the Bristol Town Board for many years where he developed a close relationship with the Bristol Police and Fire Departments. Upon his passing, he was a part-time business owner with his son, Michael, which they have shared since the early 1980s. He was an avid outdoorsmen in every sense of the word. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, metal detecting and most importantly, spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Tom is survived by their children, Michael J. Stutsman of Bristol; Missy (Jeremy) Cox of Noblesville; grandsons Carson, Collin and Cooper Cox; brothers Wayne (Evelyn) Stutsman of Union, MI and Dennis Stutsman of Middlebury. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Judy (Tom) Sparr remains a special friend of the family, whom Tom had known for the last 65 years.
Visitation will be from 11am-1pm Wednesday, November 9th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN with the funeral following at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery in Bristol.
