Verl A. Thompson, 84 of Elkhart, IN. passed away June 14, 2012 at home. He was born on Aug. 31, 1927 in Bristol, IN. to Daniel A. and Jennie (Rine) Thompson Bellows . He married Ramona V. Artley on September 11, 1970 in Elkhart.
She survives along with a daughter, Diana (Bruce) Giggy of Bristol, two sons; Daniel (Margie) Thompson of Napa, CA. and Joseph (Connie) Thompson of Middlebury, a Stepdaughter Marilee (Michael) Newman of Carmel, IN., two Stepsons, John (Nancy) Artley of Swope, VA. and Alan Artley of Loganville, GA., two sisters, Leah Borntreger and Patricia (Jerry) Pickrell both of Elkhart, 17 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM Monday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart. The George Washington Lodge 325 , Bristol will have a masonic memorial service at 7 PM. Funeral services will take place 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Fookes of Hillcrest United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol.
Mr. Thompson retired as a Master Carpenter after 48 years with Swanson Construction where he served as a final finisher. He continued to do carpentry after retirement. He was a member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church; He was a member of George Washington Masonic Lodge #325, Bristol where he served as the Worshipful Master in 1955. He received his 50 year pin on Nov. 19, 1999; He was a member of the South Bend Consistory, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and the Moose Lodge # 599, Elkhart. Verl loved to fish, snowmobile, ride motorcycles, sports of any kind with the Indianapolis Colts and NASCAR his favorites. He graduated from Bristol High School in 1946.
