Virginia R. Heerschop, 86, of Elkhart, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family February 19, 2013 at The Maples at Waterford Crossing, Goshen.
She was born February 25, 1926 in Goshen to Forrest and Evelyn (Moody) Myers. She married John L. Heerschop on June 27, 1959 in Elkhart. He died on October 19, 2001. Surviving are 2 sons, Thomas J. (Connie) Heerschop of Bristol and Fred Heerschop of Goshen; 5 daughters, Maxine (John) Emmert of Ligonier, Peg (Clark) Heckaman of Nappanee, Claudia (Steve) Heckman and Chris (Vern) Stack of Elkhart, and Kathy (Ken) McCleery of Mishawaka; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, James (Jackie) Myers and Ned (Linda) Myers of Goshen and 1 sister Nancy Kitson of Sutherlin, OR. She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Heerschop, 3 brothers, George, Donald and Larry Myers and 2 sisters, Edith Hartzler and Dorothy Comstock.
Virginia retired from C.T.S. Corp. after 31 years as an assembler. She was a member of Sugar Grove Church and liked to crochet and quilt. She also enjoyed gardening.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Thursday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart and an hour prior to the 1 pm service on Friday at Sugar Grove Church, Goshen. Pastor Rick Gerring will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
