Von Russell Kime of Elkhart, went home to Jesus and his wife, Virginia who had been waiting on him for more than 2 years. He was a few weeks shy of his 95th birthday. Von was born in Dunlap, Indiana on October 30, 1927 to the late Dwight Sr. and Grace (Mills) Kime.
Von graduated from Concord High School in the spring of 1945, and by that fall and one day before WWII ended he entered the Navy.
While in the Navy Von wanted a pen pal, so a friend set him up with his sister’s friend who were writing to soldiers. This is where the love story of Von and Virginia began. They were married in Plymouth, PA on May 27, 1950. They returned back to Dunlap where they were blessed with three children, Marnee, Kathee and Gary (Kathy) Kime. They survive.
Also left to remember “Gramp” are his grandchildren, Shannan (John) Wessler, Renee Dominiak, John DeMoss, Peter (Jess) Kime and Jerry (Corinne) DeMoss; adopted grandson, Camden Chaffee; great-grandchildren, Killian, Ophelia, Avery, John-Henry, Samuel, Ryan, Nichole and Harper; sister, Lois Coney; several in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.
Von was also welcomed home by his brother, Dwight Kime; and sisters, Vera Singleton and Marilyn Loucks; and many other family members that went to Jesus before him.
Von worked as a screw machine operator at CTS Corporation retiring after more than 40 years of service. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club there. He was also a member of Dunlap United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for 30 years.
Von read everything, he was an open book of endless questions and knowledge. His infectious smile and quick wit will be missed by so many family and friends.
