Walter R. Russell

Walter R. Russell, 90, of Elkhart, IN, passed away at home on December 22, 2024. Walter was born in Chicago, IL, on December 23, 1933, to his parents John and Ernestine Russell.

Walter served as a Corporal in the U.S. army defending our country during the Korean War, after which he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Ribbon, and the United Nations Service Medal. Walter worked for C.G Conn in Elkhart, IN for 20 years, and Vincent Bach for 24 years where he retired. Walter was a member of Moose Lodge #599, the former DAV #19 and the American Legion #143.

Walter is survived by his son Randy (Nancy) Russell of Elkhart, IN; daughters, Karen (James) Russell-Lowe of Elkhart, IN; Carol Russell of Bristol, IN; as well as 4 grandchildren, Amber Russell, Brandon Russell, Eric Carrico, and Chaz Bellfy; as well as 3 great grandchildren, Kyla Carrico, Declen Bellfy, and Cayden Bellfy. Surviving Walter is also his brother William Russell and sister Patricia Burns. Walter was preceded in death by his parents John Russell and Ernestine Rose, son Chad Russell and brother James Russell. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 11am to 1 pm, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart, IN, 46514 where funeral services will be held at 1pm. Burial with military honors will follow at Plum Grove Cemetery in Union, MI. Memorial donations in honor of Walter may be made to the Elkhart Military Veterans Honor Guard.
