April 12, 1933 — April 10, 2018

Wayne W. Reber, 84, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday April 10, 2018 at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Elkhart on April 12, 1933 and raised in Elkhart. Wayne was the son of Ernest W. and Emma H. Reber and the brother of Raymond, James and Larry Reber and Verlaine Hoffman.

After graduating from Elkhart High School in 1953, Wayne proudly served his country in the United State Army from 1953 to 1955. In August 1965, Wayne joined the Elkhart Fire Dept. retiring as Captain of Station 6 in 1988. Wayne then worked as the drafting engineer for the Med Tec Ambulance Company in Goshen.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Schmeling Reber of Elkhart and his daughter, Kimberly A. Schaus of Fishers, IN. Wayne is also survived by his 3 grandchildren, Blake, Tyler and Madison Schaus all of Fishers, IN.

His favorite thing to do was work in his yard and vegetable garden. He was always willing to help someone and liked sharing the garden with anyone.

Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm Friday April 13th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home where services will be at 12:30 pm with Pastor Dan Forehand. officiating. Burial will follow at Plum Grove Cemetery, Union, MI. The family wishes to acknowledge the love and care received from the staff at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center and also Elkhart General Hospital.

Wayne was a 45 year member of Kane Masonic Lodge, Elkhart and a 42 year member of the Bristol American Legion Post 143. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Elkhart and the Indiana Firefighters Association. Wayne was very proud of and adored his grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
