Wayne Eugene Stutsman, 89, of Union, MI, formerly of Elkhart, passed peacefully after a short term of illness. He was born to Samuel and Esther (Fruchey) Stutsman on June 29, 1935, in Elkhart, Indiana. In April 1963 he married Evelyn M. Landis in Edwardsburg, Michigan. She preceded him in death on April 13th, 2024, after 61 years of marriage. Also, preceding Wayne in death was his brother Thomas (Karen) Stutsman of Bristol and grandson Adam D. Landis of Elkhart.
Surviving Wayne in death is a brother Dennis (Wanda) Stutsman of Middlebury, nephew Michael Stutsman of Bristol, niece Michele (Jeremy) Cox and great nephews Carson, Collin and Cooper Cox of Noblesville, Indiana. Also surviving Wayne in death are stepsons Douglas (Debra) Landis of Elkhart, and Terry (Sharlene) Landis of Union, Michigan; grandsons Eric (Jody) Landis of Vandalia, Michigan, Tony Landis of Goshen and two step-granddaughters Amy (Jeff) Varano of Edwardsburg, Michigan and Kami (Aaron) Wait of Elkhart as well as 8 great grandchildren.
Wayne graduated from Concord High School and Indiana Central College (now University of Indianapolis). He earned his master’s degree in chemistry from Notre Dame University while working full-time. He retired from Miles Laboratories/Bayer Corporation with 39 years of service. He served in the Indiana National Guard. He was a member of The American Chemical Society, and the Miles/Bayer Quarter Century Club. He served as president of the Elkhart Sports Car Club, the Elkhart Stamp Club, the Miles/Bayer photo Club, and the Indiana Lake Association where he and his family lived. He also served as the chairman of the Porter Township (Cass County, Michigan) zoning commission, planning commission and board of appeals for several years. He was an avid reader, loved to travel and was a fan of Notre Dame sports, including serving as a stadium usher for 36 years. Wayne was admired and loved by all who knew him.
Per his wishes, no public funeral or memorial services will be held. Cremation has taken place at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514.
