William O. Fuchs, 85 of Hubbard Hill Retirement Community, died February 3, 2011 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born on October 23, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York to William and Rose (Beckert) Fuchs. He married Lucy Posello on June 12, 1948. She preceded him in death April, 1982. He then married Donnabelle V. Smith on December 16, 1984 in Reno, Nevada. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2004.
Survivors include a son, Robert Fuchs of Garden City, NY; two stepsons, Raymond (Marianne) Smith of Venetia, PA and Roger Smith of Elkhart; 8 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren and a sister, Catherine Smith of Nashville, TN. One brother, Frederick Fuchs preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 1-5 P.M. Sunday at Hubbard Hill, 28070 C.R. 24 Elkhart where services will be held 10 A.M. Monday with the Reverend Dick Matteson officiating.
Mr. Fuchs served as District Supervisor in charge of operations for Brooklyn Union Gas- Keyspan for 35 years. He loved woodworking, gardening especially tending his rose garden and painting. He attended night school for the following; Machine & Metal Trades, Refrigeration Engineer, Radio & TV and Stationary Engineer. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Memorial contributions may be given to the Charity of one’s choice. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home at Cobblestone Crossing, Elkhart is assisting the family with arrangements.
