William Marohn, age 84, of Elkhart was born on March 25, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to William and Elizabeth (Dall) Marohn. Bill graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1954.He then pursued his education at Ball State University where he graduated with honors from Ball State University’s Teacher College in 1958 with a B.S degree in history and business. Bill took on leadership roles as a class officer, a Blue Key member and was involved in Student Center activities. He was also a member of the Theta Chi fraternity as well.
He Joined the Air Force and served our country from 1959 - 1962, where he earned a Commendation Medal. After leaving the Air Force, Bill started his career as a financial advisor in South Bend in 1963 with Bache Halsey. He moved to Elkhart where he continued his career with Prudential Bache, Wachovia Securities, Wells Fargo and currently Stifel Nicolaus. Known to many as “Billy Bache”, he served as the National Alumni Chairman at Ball State, and received BSU’s National Business Award at Commencement services in 1996. Bill showed his leadership in his local community by serving on the boards of WNIT Public Television, American Red Cross, and United Way. Bill was one of the founders and past chairman of Child Abuse Prevention Services and was an active member of his church, Faith United Methodist, where he served as finance chairman and on the board. Bill, and his wife Elaine, most recently were recipients of the Arthur J. Decio Patron of the Arts Award. Bill was a lifelong Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and Indianapolis Colts fan. He loved to travel, play golf, and enjoyed spending time in Florida during the winters. Bill was a member of Elcona Country Club for over 50 years where he made many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Christian A. Marohn. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Elaine, his sister, Carol Willey (Mike) of Texas, and his children Sigrid (Martin) Howe of Indianapolis, Michael Griffy of Osceola, Tamara (Robert) Tidey of Edwardsburg, MI, and Teresa Pritchett of Indianapolis. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Taylor Griffy, Justin (Elysia) Tidey, Darren Betts, Sarah Tidey, Christian Pritchett, Lydia Howe, Michael Griffy, Philip Pritchett, Henry Howe, and two great grandchildren, Avery and Brogan.
Friends may visit with family from 4-7 pm on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Rice Cemetery with military honors. Rev. John Hogsett from Faith United Methodist Church will officiate.
