William T. Marschke, 77, of Edwardsburg, died April 1, 2010 at 6:18 am at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born Feb. 11, 1933 to Edward & Frances (Bitke) Marschke in Chicago.
He married Peggy Lamb in Chicago. She survives with sons Kurt (Jackie) of Elkhart, and Raymond (Maurcia), grandchildren Erica, Caitlin, Josh, Bethany and Ashley; brothers Frank of Bradenton, FL, Gary of Bolingbrook, IL, Chuck of Friendship, WI; and sister Laverne Bennett of Cedar Lake, IN. He was preceded in death by a son, William.
Mr. Marschke was a retired US Army Sgt. First Class serving from June 1952 to Dec. 1972. He received the following medals: CIB with star, Bronze Star with leaf, Air Medal, Army Commendation 7 leaves, Good Conduct 7 knots, National Defense 1 star, Korean Service 2 stars, Vietnam Service, Korean Defense, RVN Gallantry Cross, UN Korean Service, Vietnam Campaign, ROK War Service, 24th Infantry Div. Korean and 1st Air Cavalry Vietnam. He was an outdoorsman who loved his family and collected military memorabilia.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart, with visitation 2 hours prior. Pastor Joe Wenger will officiate. Military honors will be rendered following the service.
