William F. Martin, 79 of Bristol, passed away Dec. 18, 2014 at Greenleaf Health Campus. He was born April 20, 1935 in Elkhart to Robert H. and Mary E. (Sanford) Martin. He married his High School sweetheart, Alice A. Schuler on June 8, 1957 in Elkhart. She survives with 3 daughters, Marianne (Mike) Johnson of Auburn, IN, Marcia (William) Haut of Noblesville, IN and Michelle Fioritto of Elkhart; a son, Robert (Amy) Martin of Bristol; 9 grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Megan (Nathan) Clark, Mitch (Lindsey) Johnson, David Haut, Jillian Haut, Lauren Fioritto, Kristen Fioritto, Mackenzie Martin and William Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert L. Martin.
Bill graduated from Elkhart High School in 1954 and attended Purdue University on a football scholarship. He retired from Conrail as a supervisor after 43 years. He served as 4th District Elkhart City Councilman and was a member of the New Horizon Band. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid sports enthusiast, especially the Blue Blazers and Purdue.
Bill was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church, Kane Masonic Lodge #183, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Mizpah Shrine, Ft. Wayne, and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, Dec. 22nd at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, where a Masonic Memorial Service will be at 7:30 pm. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Tuesday, Dec. 23rd at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 26824 CR# 4, Elkhart, with Fr. Henry G. Randolph officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Elkhart.
