William Edward Smith

William Edward Smith, 87 of Granger, IN., formerly of Rensselaer, IN., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, with his family by his side. Bill was born on April 2, 1937 to Joseph B. and Mary Lillian Smith in Stanley, KY. Bill married Margaret Hall on November 28, 1959 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Highland, IN.

Bill graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He retired on March 31, 1999 from Local 150, where he was a crane operator for over 40 years. He was a member of the McKinley Masonic Lodge #712 in Schererville, IN., a gold member of the South Bend Scottish Rite and a former member of the Griffith Masonic Lodge #735. He enjoyed bowling and golfing. Bill and his wife, Margaret, are members of St. Pius X Catholic Church. They enjoyed spending time together going camping and traveling to Florida, especially for the winter. Most of all Bill loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Ann Smith of Granger, IN; their children Gregg (Linda) Smith of Crown Point, IN., Lisa (Greg) Ketcham of South Bend, IN., Brian (Shelly) Smith of Fishers, IN., Galyn (Jason) Young of Granger, IN and Lacey (Jason) Dobrolecki of Indianapolis, IN ; grandchildren Kevin Smith, Rachel Smith, Allison (Alex) Rykse, Kelsey Ketcham, Zhane Smith, Mason Smith, Gage Smith, Bode Smith, Milah Young, Garon Young, Nolan Young, Kalli Dobrolecki, Malina Dobrolecki, Iliza Dobrolecki and Ashley (Joshua) Huber and sister Rose Catherine McCarter of Owensboro, KY., and brother, John Paul (Beverly) Smith of Owensboro, KY., sister-in-law Juanita Smith. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Joseph B. Smith and Mary Lillian Timbrook, siblings Mary Bernard (A.J.) Kaelin, Joseph B. Smith, Margaret (J.A.) Thompson and James A. Smith.
