William Junior Spade, 100 of Elkhart, IN, passed away November 10, 2018, in his home at Eastlake Terrace. He was born February 5, 1918, in Elkhart, IN, to William F. And Christina Alma (Hoeger) Spade.
William graduated from Elkhart High School in 1936.
He married Jean Maxine Swartzell on Sept. 28, 1940, in Elkhart, IN, where they lived their entire lives.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory one son, William C. (Ellen) Spade of Høvik, Norway; three grandchildren, Erik (Elisabeth), Lynn Charles (Anne), and Kent Andrew (Pia), eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild also living in Norway.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Mr. Spade retired from Speedgrip Chuck where he was supervisor for 21 years. Previous to that he worked at Foster’s Machine Shop and Harry Jessup Machine Shop. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene where he served on the church board for many years and sang tenor in the choir.
He enjoyed music, water sports, and biking. He loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with his wife through Scandinavia and Northern Europe. His greatest attribute was his quiet, rock solid faithfulness and love to God and his family.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 pm on Thursday, December 27th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday, December 28th at 11 am at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Elkhart, with Rev. William Scott, Lafayette, officiating. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery.
