William “Bill” Strong, 74 of Bristol, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in his home.
He was born October 2, 1943 in Elmira, NY to Floyd L. and Josephine H. (Leszyk) Strong. He married Mary E. Swoveland on Oct. 15, 1983 in Bristol. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2003. Surviving are his children, Valerie (Tracy) Greer of Bristol, Deborah (Bill) Walters of Elkhart, Robert (Deb) Tubbs of Middlebury and Vanessa (Doug) Kolkow of Medford, OR; daughter-in-law, Nancy Tubbs of Bristol, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 4 step-sisters and 1 step-brother. He was preceded in death by a son, Chuck Tubbs.
Bill earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hillsdale College and retired from Forest River in the shipping/receiving department and previously worked for Robert Weed Plywood Co. After his retirement, he opened the Book Nook in Bristol. He was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Bristol and the Loyal Order of Moose #599, Elkhart.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Monday, March 26th at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart where the Rosary will be recited at 4 pm. Visitation will also be an hour prior to the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 27th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Fr. Bob Van Kempen will officiate. He will be laid to rest next to his wife Mary at St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, in Elmira, NY.
